In pursuit of promoting economic sustainability across sectors, CoWA integrates innovative approaches in the natural resource base to increase farm profitability while ensuring environmental stewardship. Our Sustainable Agriculture program focuses on equipping vulnerable households, women, youth, and crisis-affected communities with knowledge, tools, and opportunities to produce food sustainably, earn income, and build resilience against shocks such as climate change, displacement, and food insecurity.

Our Key Interventions

1.Permaculture Farming

We promote holistic land-use systems that combine crops, trees, and livestock to create sustainable and self-regenerating farming environments. For vulnerable families with limited resources, permaculture offers low-cost, practical solutions for food security and soil regeneration.

2. Biodiversity Promotion

By encouraging the preservation and integration of indigenous seeds, crops, and livestock, we help smallholder farmers—especially women and rural households—safeguard biodiversity and reduce dependency on costly external inputs.

3.Value Chain Development

We work with small-scale producers to strengthen agricultural value chains, connecting vulnerable farmers and cooperatives to local, national, and regional markets. This increases incomes while reducing exploitation by middlemen.

4.Urban & Small-Space Farming

For displaced families, urban poor, and communities with little access to land, we promote small-space innovations such as kitchen gardening, spiral gardening, sack gardening, and container farming. These techniques ensure access to fresh vegetables, improve nutrition, and provide supplementary income, even in camps and urban slums.

5.Water Conservation Practices

In drought-prone and crisis-affected regions, we support the adoption of drip irrigation, mulching, zai pits, and rainwater harvesting. These practices help communities grow food despite water scarcity, reducing vulnerability to climate shocks.

6.Food Security Initiatives

We equip vulnerable households with tools and skills for consistent access to nutritious food. This includes training in post-harvest management, preservation methods, and diversified diets to combat malnutrition in children and mothers.

7.Climate-Smart Agriculture

We support crisis-prone and resource-limited farmers with climate-resilient methods such as drought-tolerant crops, agroforestry, soil conservation, and rotational farming. These practices help households adapt to changing weather patterns and secure long-term productivity.

8.Support for Crisis-Affected Communities

For people displaced by conflict, natural disasters, or economic shocks, we provide tailored agricultural interventions such as emergency seed kits, fast-maturing crops, and small-scale livestock programs. These ensure rapid recovery of livelihoods and reduced reliance on humanitarian aid.
